BEVERLEY DOWERIN EXCURSION
Sixteen players boarded our hired bus on Tuesday morning at 5.45am and with vice president David Broadfoot at the wheel, arrived safely at Beverley for their annual Classic Fours event. Our four teams in the 28 team field met with mixed success but the highlight was the second placing of Gordon Wilson, John Bridge, Alex Mirmikidis and Les Mathews. All very tight matches but the 4 wins plus only 5 shots up was sufficient to secure the $600 prize money.
A very pleasant day on the greens was followed by an equally enjoyable evening at the Beverley Hotel, which for some spilled over to the early hours of Wednesday morning. Well fed and watered, all made the 6am departure for Dowerin with a full breakfast en route at Lucy`s in Northam.
Several more players from DNBC drove up for the Boekeman Machinery sponsored open triples event of 4 games of 14 ends which enabled us to provide 6 teams of the 22 participating. Playing on superb 16 second plus grass greens last year`s winners John O`Meehan, Kingsley Newman and Ron Day challenged again to be Dalkeith`s best performed rink with three wins and an exciting draw to take third place.
With loaded esky on board and after 104 ends of play over two days in warm conditions, a rather weary group headed home in good spirits and already talking of a repeat visit to both carnivals next year.
