1 White wins 2011-12 Mid-Week Pennant

1 White Thursday Pennant Win…….

The pennant season which in general had produced more red ink than black ink on the scoreboard, concluded with a pennant win for the 1 White team on Thursday last.
In somewhat dramatic fashion the scores were tied at the end of 63 ends, requiring the three rinks to play an extra end.

Fortunately the rinks led by Ross Donald and John O’Meehan, who had earlier won their games, were able to win the extra end as well to carry the day by 2 shots and produce a pennant to display for the 2011–2012 season. The win has that team facing the challenge of playing in the top division next season.

Despite winning only the one flag, the pennant season was enjoyed by the great bulk of Dalkeith-Nedlands players through all divisions, who accepted the will of the selection panel and supported their club.

In six months we start doing it all again.

Bragging rights after Thursday Pennants were earned conclusively by 3 Blue with our only win of the day. A clean sweep. Three other sides won one rink each while two came up empty handed.
On Saturday things were a little better two teams - 2 Blue and 6 Blue - winning on aggregate.
The Print Hotline awards were taken home by David Broadfoot (again) Otto Dawson David Steinberg and Richard Jay on Thursday with Plus 20, and by Andy McGlew Peter Hopper Barry Ireland and Peter Gason on Saturday with a plus 13.
On Tuesday Win Jones David Ironside and Graham Pennefather had a 4 shot win.
With Country week games occupying our greens there are no rinks available over the long weeken

We did slightly better than break even in terms of winning rinks in the mid-week pennant competition, winning nine and a half of the eighteen played. However this was largely due to our two division three teams who won five and a half of the six matches played thus dropping only half a point. The other four teams managed just four points between them.
On Saturday the picture was really disappointing with all teams winning just one rink. However a10 shot win by the 6 Blue team of Phil Dry David Ironside Jim Mathews and John Hollingshead was enough to secure aggregate points for the side. Well done.
The Print Hotline awards went to David Broadfoot Otto Dawson David Steinberg and Richard Jay mid-week, and Jim Robinson, Ken Brooke Martin Adams and Ian Broadfoot on Saturday.
A good roll up of 24 players for the mixed competition on Tuesday playing triples found Alan Briot John Galvin and Val Jackson too good for the other 21 with a 14 shot win. Peter Wiesner Estelle Boak and Brian Jackson came in second with 11 up.

A small field contested the 2012 Novice Singles this Sunday, and the event was won convincingly by Pek Goh, with Ross McLean runner up. See Club Champioships for the full results.
